Terms of Service
Effective 16 September 2026
These terms apply to the Attender website, the Attender mobile app, and the Attender API (together, the service). By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you use Attender on behalf of a school, you confirm you may accept these terms for it.
1. The service
Attender lets lecturers run attendance sessions, lets students check in from inside a range the lecturer sets, and lets schools report on the results. Only email domains a school has registered with us can create accounts. Students join by invitation from a lecturer.
2. Your account
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us at once at hello@karmat-hq.com if you think someone else has used your account.
- One person, one account. Do not share an account or sign in as someone else.
3. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Mark attendance for anyone but yourself, or check in when you are not in the room, including by faking your location, using a mock location app, or presenting someone else's face.
- Try to reach data you are not permitted to see, or test, probe or break the service's security, except under a written agreement with us.
- Overload the service, get around rate limits, or scrape it.
- Upload anything unlawful, harmful, or that you have no right to share, including in lecture summaries and course material links.
- Reverse engineer the apps to extract credentials, or use the app's own API key outside the app.
- Use the service to send spam or to harass anyone.
Your school may also have its own rules about attendance and academic integrity. Breaking these terms may be reported to your school.
4. Schools, lecturers and integrations
Schools decide who is invited, how attendance is used, and how long records are kept. Lecturers are responsible for the courses, sessions and summaries they create. API keys are confidential: whoever holds a key is responsible for everything done with it, and must revoke it as soon as it may have been exposed.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of what you put into Attender. You give us permission to store, process and display it only as needed to run the service for you and your school.
6. Privacy
How we handle personal data, including location and optional face check in, is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep Attender available and secure, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or free of errors. Location and face matching depend on your device and can occasionally be wrong; a lecturer can always correct a record by hand. We may change or improve the service, and will give reasonable notice of changes that significantly affect you.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using Attender and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. A school can also disable accounts in its domain.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, the service is provided as is, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions a school makes based on attendance records. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, unless the law where you live gives you rights that cannot be taken away.
11. Changes to these terms
We will post changes here and update the effective date. Continuing to use Attender after a change takes effect means you accept it.
12. Contact
